Haiti earthquake disaster: SALTO takes the initiativeOn January 12th, 2010, a massive 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean nation of Haiti.
The quake, Haiti's worst in two centuries, struck about 15km (10 miles) south-west of the capital Port-au-Prince, reducing much of the city to rubble. It is estimated that the death toll could top 200,000 with thousands more seriously injured and millions left homeless.
International aid has been quickly mobilized to assist in recovery efforts mainly in Port-au-Prince, the worst affected area, but also in other towns and villages close by.
SALTO employees are keen to help and have taken the initiative to raise funds for the Haiti appeal. Donation boxes have been placed in offices throughout the building and it is hoped as many people as possible will contribute to the appeal by giving what they can.
Once again, as with the 2007 flood disaster in Mexico, SALTO will match the funds raised by employees' means that whatever sum of money is raised by the employees, SALTO as a company will donate i.e. 'match' the same amount of money. |
