Oiartzun Saskilaguank Saskibaloia The Oiartzungo Saskilagunak Saskibaloi kirol taldea (Oiartzun Basket Ball Sport Club) is a non-profit association that promotes the sport of basket ball to schools in the Oiratzun area of Spain. The club has a choice of membership categories available and does not discriminate by age or gender. Until recently the club offered the following membership options: - Boys from 12 to 13 years old. - Boys from 14 to 15 years old. - Boys Juniors from 16 to 17. - Boys Seniors from 18 upwards And for the women’s team they had just one category - Girls from 14 to 15 years old. But for the 2008-2009 Season, a new category has been created. It’s for girls from 12 to 13 years old. The objective of the new team category is to push and motivate the youngest girls in the club to challenge in the regional league, and to take their first steps in serious competitive basket ball. As a local company (from the same area as the club) SALTO wants to contribute to and support the club and especially support this new category of girls from 12 to 13 years old. We believe that supporting this sort of initiative is very positive because not only does it provide local young people with sports training, it also trains their characters too. This is important since instruction in competitive team sports is declining in schools regionally and nationally, and society in the long term will be the poorer for it. Sport helps people to achieve a healthy body and mind and promotes fair play, team building, discipline and responsibility – so it’s good for society too.
