One of the oldest universities in Spain having been founded in 1886, Deusto university was the first university in the Basque country and located in Bilbao. In 1956 a new campus was opened in Guipuzcoa, San Sebastian, and the university has since grown in size and reputation. Today it offers students a wide choice of degree courses as well as master’s degrees and doctorate qualifications. SALTO Systems and Deusto University (San Sebastián), have signed a collaboration agreement along with thirteen other well-known companies, to sponsor a new degree that will allow students to gain a unique qualification - a duel degree in Administration and Management + IT Systems Engineering. The new degree is the direct result of a research project conducted by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration-ESTE at Deusto’s San Sebastián campus. It’s a very interesting project because the way business is done is changing and as a result of the impact of new technologies, companies need employees who can who can multi-task in more than one discipline. They want recruits who as well as being well qualified in business management, also have technical skills in the fields of computing and software development. The thirteen companies supporting this new academic initiative are: SALTO Systems, TELEFÓNICA (Telecommunications), KUTXA (Banking), BARRABES (Electronic trade), IBERMÁTICA (IT area), MICROSOFT (Software), IKUSI (Telecommunications), BBVA (Banking), FAGOR (Electronics and electrical appliance), and CAF (Railway), INIKER (IT Area), CTI SOFT (IT area), HUMAN and INFOCENTER (IT Area). Through collaboration agreements they will support Deusto University with: • Internship agreements with the partner companies. • Graduates taking part in the headhunting process. • Help create specific projects for use by the partner companies. • Participation in seminars and educational initiatives. Senior executives and employees from the partner companies will take an active role in the teaching of the new degree, contributing to seminars and lessons within the syllabus. The initiative is part of a programme through which SALTO Systems will pursue opportunities to support projects directed by other organizations that have the aim of expanding knowledge and education from an international view point.
